Canada has a long history with large institutions and the deinstitutionalization process. Through first-person accounts from policymakers, deinstitutionalization experts, and the lived experience of people with disabilities who lived in multiple institutions, this side event to the United Nation’s 14th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities provides a space to discuss lessons learned from Canada’s deinstitutionalization process.
