Pharmasave Huntsville wins Community Living Month Best Decorated Window Contest

Ten downtown businesses put their community spirit on display for our Community Living Month Best Decorated Window Contest, held in partnership with the Downtown Huntsville BIA, in May 2022. A volunteer committee that included community member Marjory Curry, Community Living Huntsville staff member Jamie Arnold, and Community Living Huntsville board chair Myke Malone had the difficult task of choosing a winner, based on use of colour and creativity, on May 19.
The honour ultimately went to Pharmasave Huntsville.
“It was a difficult decision for the committee, given all the incredible displays we saw downtown, and we thank the committee members for their careful consideration of each entry,” said Jennifer Jerrett, Community Engagement Specialist for Community Living Huntsville. “We were absolutely thrilled to see so much community spirit on display downtown, and we are so grateful that participating businesses were able to help us celebrate and promote community inclusion.”
The contest, in honour of Community Living Month and Community Living Huntsville’s 60th anniversary, invited Downtown Huntsville BIA members to decorate their storefront windows with our signature colours to celebrate inclusion for people with developmental disabilities and their families, so everyone can live dignified and meaningful lives as respected, valued, and contributing members of their community.
“Community Living is so important in our community,” said Rachel Hunt, Manager for Pharmasave Huntsville. “They work to make sure everyone is included, and that people are valued and respected for their skills and contributions.”
Pharmasave Huntsville also has firsthand knowledge of the value of inclusion, too, as an inclusive employer with our Supported Employment program.
Hunt said the pharmacy participated in the window decorating contest not only because the contest celebrated Community Living Huntsville and the Community Living Movement, but also because it celebrated a broader sense of community, too. And she was proud to see community spirit on display is so many downtown storefronts for the contest.
“That’s what I love about our town – we lift each other up,” said Hunt.
The winning display filled a large storefront window with lots of bright blue and green decorations that matched Community Living’s signature colours, conveyed a feeling of festive celebration, included lights, and incorporated a custom banner to promote Community Living Huntsville’s 60th anniversary.
Pharmasave Huntsville, as contest winner, will receive a box of sweets compliments of Windmill Bakery and Bistro, a swag bag from Community Living Huntsville, and Downtown Huntsville BIA Downtown Dollars.
