Launch a career as a champion of inclusion with Community Living Huntsville
Tyler Rademaker had her pick of employers after college – and she chose Community Living Huntsville.
“I chose Community Living Huntsville with a goal to work in its Community program,” says the recent graduate. “A lot of other places I had connections with didn’t have Community programs.”
Rademaker has long had a passion for human services and, when considering post-secondary options, she enrolled in Georgian College’s two-year Developmental Services Worker program at its Orillia campus.
“I wanted to go into a field in health care or working with people with disabilities or with kids,” she says. “Choosing to become a Direct Support Worker gave me all three of those options when I graduated because of the variety in the field.”
She ultimately decided to apply her skills in Developmental Services. Her grandfather had a fulfilling career in the field and inspired her with his stories of enriching people’s lives.
And she has someone close to her with a developmental disability, who comes from a loving, fortunate family and has access to a variety of supports and services. “Not everybody is given that opportunity,” she says. “I want to be able to help people to reach their fullest potential.”
After graduation in April 2022, Rademaker joined the Community Living Huntsville team. Her first role was with the Supported Group Living team and, within a few months, she successfully applied for a role with the Community team.
She now works as a full-time Direct Support Professional in both Supported Independent Living and Community Participation. Each day she empowers adults with developmental disabilities to build meaningful lives of their choosing, while championing authentic community inclusion.
“I can quite honestly say I love coming to work every day. It’s a wonderful feeling,” says Rademaker. “And the team members here are absolutely amazing.”
